Oil Distribution Industry turns up the heat on Cancer
12th April 2007
Backed by The Federation of Petroleum Suppliers, the oil distribution industry is launching its own charitable organisation aimed at raising over £250,000 for cancer research and care charities in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
'Oil Together' will be launched at the FPS 2007 Exhibition and Distributor Conference, Telford International Centre at 3.30pm on Wednesday 18 April 2007 when the FPS committee members will be pulling a 3.5 tonne oil tanker, generously provided by incoming President David Hodge of Ribble Fuel Oils, to kick start the Oil Together fund raising.
Following the launch at Telford, oil distribution depots throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland can help by organising fundraising activities of their own in a bid to raise the £250,000 target.
To date companies such as ConocoPhillips, Fort Vale, Mabanaft, Mechtronic, Petroplus, UK Fuels and Suckling Transport have already provided generous financial support to help launch the campaign.
Fundraising progress can be followed on the Oil Together website http://www.oiltogether.org.uk where you can find out what other oil distributors are doing to raise money.
Furthermore, the charity will have a section of their website dedicated to those who have lost and those who are winning their fight against cancer. Visitors to the site can upload the names of those they will to commemorate or celebrate.
Oil Together Chairman, Ian Macmillan of Swan Petroleum comments: “The Oil Together concept came about following the deaths from cancer of past FPS Presidents Alan Newman and David Evans. Most of us have been touched in some way by this devastating disease and we felt, as such a large industry in the UK and Republic of Ireland, we would like to do our bit.
"We will be working to support four major cancer charities in the UK and Republic of Ireland, Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Irish Cancer Society. We hope that Oil Together will encourage people to explore innovative ways of raising funds. But, this is not about just giving money, this is about empowering those people who we are helping and making a difference”.
